Frequently asked questions

Is this an official Income Tax Department tool?

No. It is a FinTaxLife browser aid based on the Department's published AY 2026-27 eligibility guidance.

When does ITR-1 fit?

For AY 2026-27, the Department says ITR-1 can cover a resident individual (other than RNOR) with total income up to ₹50 lakh and specified simple income, including up to two house properties and LTCG under Section 112A up to ₹1.25 lakh.

When is ITR-4 an option?

ITR-4 can apply to eligible resident individuals, HUFs and firms other than LLPs with total income up to ₹50 lakh and qualifying presumptive business or professional income under Sections 44AD, 44ADA or 44AE, subject to exclusions.

What happens when the case is not ITR-1 to ITR-4?

Companies, LLPs and several other entity types use other returns. This selector flags those cases instead of pretending one of ITR-1 to ITR-4 applies.
